Station 7

Image of Station 7

Adorned pelt (for mourning) (detail), Embroidery floss, acrylic yarn, glazed stoneware, linen, 110 x 60cm.
Photograph by Danni McGrath.

In my work, the body's boundaries are seen to be shifting and permeable; our edges are easily breached.

At once a shroud, a mourning garment, and a 'pelt' or skin, this piece uses tactile processes of adornment as a way of coming to terms with death.

Meditation

I am finding it hard to watch you, Jesus,
to see you struggling,
to see you on the ground.
Into your silence I want to shout:
‘Why do they keep on hurting you?
What have you done wrong?

Reading

Ill-treated and afflicted,
He never said a word.
Like a lamb led to the slaughter house,
like a sheep dumb before its shearers,
He never opened His mouth.

Isaiah 53:7
